Cantor Fitzgerald 9/11 Charity Day
On the eleventh anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, Cantor Fitzgerald (where Camille’s Dad works) held its 8th Charity Day event. Cantorsuffered the most casualties of any organization when the World Trade Centers collapsed on September 11, 2001. In 2005, Cantor affiliate BGC Partners hosted the first Charity Day in London to memorialize the 658 employees lost and to raise funds for charity. In the years since, theevent was expanded to New York and (with Camille’s help!) this year to Los Angeles.
Cantor and BGC donate 100% of their worldwide revenues on Charity Day to the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund, which then distributes funds to approximately 100 participating charities. Charity Day raised $12 million this year and $89 million has been donated to-date. In total, the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund has distributed over a quarter of a billion dollars in memory of the 658 men and women who worked at Cantor and lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
This year’s first ever Los Angeles Charity Day saw participation from sports and entertainment celebrities, the Los Angeles Fire Department, The Los Angeles Police Department, and the United States Air Force. Select participants included Steve Tisch, chairman and owner of the NY Giants and Hollywood producer (Forrest Gump, Risky Business, Pursuit of Happyness), actor Michael O’Malley (Glee, Shameless, Yes, Dear), Milena Govich (Law and Order, Rescue Me, Cabaret (on Broadway)), Ron Livingston (Office Space, Swingers, Sex in the City, Band of Brothers), and David DeLuise (Wizards of Waverly Place, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Stargate SG-1). Six members of LAFD walked the trading floor, and the LAPD did a helicopter fly-by of Cantor’s Century City office. We were also honored to have in attendance Bud Rice, grandfather of Cantor’s Brett Rice and a WWII vet (USAF, 1st Pilot, 37th Squadron, 316th Troop Carrier Group) who flew troops from England to France during the Invasion of Normandy on D-Day (American Hero).
We are extremely grateful to the celebrity ambassadors who donated their time to honor the memory of 9/11 and make a difference in our community.
